ANNOUNCEMENTS
OUR CONDOLENCES Our condolences to Norma Morris and her family on the passing of her husband Carl who was a long-time member of Hillcrest and to his sister, Ditty and Joe Young & family. |
CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to Dr. Ashley Danguecan and Mark Duxbury on getting married September 19, 2020. |
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING After the worship service on Sunday, October 11, there will be a congregational meeting to provide you final updates of our historic three (3) year Capital Campaign. And also, discuss the next steps toward the completion of our church renovation project. |
SPECIAL OFFERING Next Sunday, September 27 and the following Sunday, October 4 we will be receiving a special offering for Reconciliation. |
2021 GENERAL ASSEMBLY CANCELLATION The General Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada voted to cancel the 2021 General Assembly originally scheduled for July 31-Aug. 4, 2021, in Louisville, KY. This was not a decision that was made lightly. After many weeks of prayer, investigation and long discussion, it became obvious to us that we needed to act in the best interests of the Church going forward. The COVID-19 pandemic has made travel and large gatherings ill-advised until the situation becomes more stable. |
INDIGENOUS LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge the land we are standing on today is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaty signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
CALL TO ACTION
As a response to the Black Lives Matter protests and demonstrations, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Canada has shared the Call to Action to “reaffirm the Disciples’ commitment to be an Anti-Racist, Pro-Reconciling Church.” Click here to read the full letter.
ONLINE WORSHIP SERVICE BEST PRACTICES
We would like to thank everyone for joining us each Sunday for our worship services online during these unprecedented times. Over the past few weeks, we have been in communication with other congregations to discuss best practices while conducting services virtually. We understand that there have been instances where online services have been taken over by unknown participants. To ensure our services continue to be a safe, open and inviting space for anyone who would like to participate, we conduct the following:
Have a moderator ensuring our services run smoothly
1. Ask everyone to state their name upon logging in. If you have invited a guest, please introduce them at the beginning of the meeting.
2. Continue to provide the login information each week by e-mail/phone. If you, or someone you know, would like to join the distribution list, please click here or contact Rev. Ann Stainton at 416-433-7997.
In the case where we have to promptly close the conference line, we appreciate your understanding and will follow up with a communication, which can be found in the News section of the Hillcrest website: https://hillcrestdisciples.ca/news/. If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with our Ministerial Team at hillcrest@bellnet.ca or 416-433-7997.
Thank you again for your support and we continue to be grateful for your dedication in congregating each Sunday online.
